The US Department of Defense announced on Friday the deployment of an aircraft carrier and military frigates to the eastern Mediterranean.

The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and its crew of 6,500 personnel are set to be deployed to the Middle East early next week, according to US media reports.

The US Secretary of Defense also announced the cancellation of plans to travel to the region starting this weekend.
